Butter Goods Clothing
Butter Goods is an Australian skateboard clothing brand that is based in Perth. The brand is 100% skater owned with it’s roots and influence deeply embedded in skateboarding. Butter Goods takes heavy inspiration from music, those skate brands from the late 80’s and early 90’s along with some iconic fashion brands like Ralph Lauren, Polo Sport and Tommy Hilfiger. They are an international purveyor of street-ready garments with an emphasis on durability, fit, and progressive design.
Butter Goods is an independent skatewear brand founded in 2008 in Perth, Australia, by skateboarders Garth Mariano and Matt Evans. Since its inception, the brand has grown from a local favourite into a recognised name in the global skateboarding clothing scene, carving out a niche with its playful, high-quality designs and strong connection to skate culture.
Both lifelong skateboarders, Matt and Garth also co-founded the Perth-based skate shop Lo-fi. After leaving their day jobs and completing courses in graphic design, they decided to turn their passion for skateboarding, art, and music into a clothing brand. With a distinctly 90s style, created through a mash up of jazz, soul and heavy influences from the best of hip-hop. Butter’s clothing features adventurous colours, playful graphics, and high-quality materials.
Over the years, Butter has also built a strong skate team. It began with Australian skaters like Casey Foley, Phil Marshall, Morgan Campbell, and Alex Campbell, before expanding internationally to include riders such as Ben Gore and Philly Santosuosso in the U.S. More recently, the team has grown to feature Shaun Paul, Jacapo Carozzi, and English skaters like Dougie George, who also rides for Chocolate Skateboards, as well as young shredder Fred Ryan from Leeds.
Butter is well known for its collaborations, often partnering with brands and artists that align with its core values. Early collaborations included HUF, DC Shoes, and FTC, helping to raise the brand’s profile. More recently, Butter teamed up with legendary Hip-Hop producer Madlib, known for his work with MF DOOM on the iconic Madvillainy album, reflecting the brand’s ongoing celebration of music, art, and Skateboarding. Through its distinctive style, innovative collaborations, and a growing international team, Butter Skateboards has cemented itself as a creative and influential force in skateboarding and streetwear.
