Chocolate Skateboards

Chocolate Skateboards is one of the many companies that falls under the the Girl Skateboards family umbrella. It was started by Mike Carroll and Rick Howard back in 1994 after an incident where they had to leave their long time friend Chico Brenes behind as they went on a tour due to there being no room in the van. The original Chocolate team was made up of Chico, Keenan Milton, Daniel Castillo, Richard Mulder and Gabriel Rodriguez to name a few with other big names such as Jerry Hsu, Marc Johnson also making a stop off on Chocolate during it’s 20 (plus) year history.

Chocolate Skateboards is an iconic offshoot of Girl Skateboards, founded in 1994 by Mike Carroll and Rick Howard under the Crailtap umbrella. The brand was born from a memorable moment on a Girl tour when longtime friend Chico Brenes had to be left behind due to limited space in the van, a story that highlights the tight-knit friendship at the heart of Chocolate.

The original team featured skaters such as Chico Brenes, Keenan Milton, Daniel Castillo, Richard Mulder, and Gabriel Rodriguez, with later additions including Jerry Hsu and Marc Johnson. Over the years, the roster has continued to evolve, maintaining a mix of seasoned pros and rising talents with the likes of Jordan Trahan, Carl Aikens, James Capps and Erik Herrera being the current crop of fresh riders.

Chocolate’s strong visual identity is a major part of its appeal. Renowned artist Evan Hecox has contributed to the brand’s distinctive deck graphics, his style combines modernist clean lines, Bauhaus typeography and distilling images down into their simplest of forms, giving the brand a unique voice in a crowded skateboarding market.
