Skateboard Decks

Skateboard Deck Construction:

Here's a little insight into different skateboard deck constructions that we carry here at Native.

7-Ply Maple - The classic skateboard deck construction, 7plys of Canadian maple bound together with glue. Some of our decks use Resin Glue which is stronger and makes the decks stiffer, these are labelled Resin-7 construction on the site where possible.

Slick Decks - Slick Decks or Everslick as they are sometimes known have an extra slick layer on the bottom that helps you slide. Said to be up to 5 times stronger than a regular deck, the graphics on these decks will last a bit longer as they are under the slick layer so they don't scrape off as quickly as they would with regular decks. 

Technology Decks - A few of the skateboard brands we carry sometimes offer a range of technology decks. A couple of the stand out Technology Decks in recent years are Powell Peralta's Flight Construction Decks which are layered with an epoxy infused fibre to make them stronger and lighter than a regular deck. They have "Everlasting Pop" and are said to outlast all other decks (they've even driven cars over them and they haven't snapped).  Santa Cruz and Creature Skateboards offer something similar to Powells Flight called VX Construction Decks that are made up of 5 ply maple and 2 layers of 'Quad-X' technology. These are said to be thinner, stronger and have more pop than a regular skateboard deck.

Skateboard Deck Width:

All of our decks here are sized up on the website (we measure each board when it comes in the warehouse, our sizes may differ slightly to manufacturers websites, we like to provide a true measurement). Starting at 7.0" wide (Mini Decks: for kids and shorter skaters) they go right through to +10" wide these days. General sizes of decks are 8.0" - 9.0"  and the average deck size currently is 8.25" wide as decks have become wider in recent years. If you're new to skateboarding then we'd probably suggest starting out on something between 8.0" - 8.25" wide, anything bigger may make learning tricks harder, it is all personal preference though and what feels right for yourself.

Griptape:

All of our skateboards usually come with Free Jessup Griptape as standard, you can choose whether you'd like us to apply it for you or you can do it yourself. We also offer an assortment of other griptape's for sale such as Shake Junt, Grizzly and MOB Grip, you can choose these different grips when you purchase your deck.
