Chocolate Skateboards: Bar Series III by Evan Hecox
Back in 2000, Evan Hecox created one of Chocolate Skateboards’ most memorable graphic series with the original Bar Scene boards. The artwork placed each of the Chocolate riders into a fictional bar, with Hecox’s loose, understated style bringing the whole scene to life. There was something about those graphics that made them feel different: the more you looked, the more little details you noticed.
Nearly a decade later, Hecox returned to the idea with Bar Scene II. Rather than simply reissuing the originals, he revisited the concept and made subtle changes to the artwork, giving the series a slightly different feel while keeping the character of the first. It was a great example of how Chocolate could look back at its own history without simply repeating it.
And now, in 2026, the Bar Series is back again.
Bar Series III feels less like a nostalgia exercise and more like a continuation of the story. Once again illustrated by Hecox, the new boards bring the concept forward with today’s Chocolate team, including riders such as Vincent Alvarez, Jordan Trahan, Erik Herrera and Carl Aikens.
Looking back across the three generations of Bar graphics, you can see the evolution of Chocolate itself. The original captured the early 2000s era, the second revisited that world almost a decade later, and Bar Series III brings the idea into the present without losing what made it work in the first place.
Twenty-six years after the original Bar Scene appeared, it’s pretty cool to see the same idea still working. Different riders, different era, same artist, same Chocolate flavour.
