Newcastle Upon Tyne Skateboard Spot Map
Newcastle; a small city with some hidden crusty gems. Below is a map of some of the more well known and regularly skated spots that the toon has to offer. We’ve also listed some of the better ones to get you started along with some staff picks…

LEDGES
- Monument Benches – Situated in the heart of the city these perfect marble benches can be hectic and hard to skate at times but decent street lights make this spot hittable on the not so busy evenings. With a fair few benches to choose from the line potential here is great.
- White Ledges – A short 5-10min skate out of the city centre finds you on the edge of the Ouseburn and in the depths of student accomodation, the ledges have recently had thier skate stoppers removed giving you an almost perfect ledge with endless run-up
- Disco Ledge – A waxed up and ready to skate double height curb sat in a smooth tarmac carpark just out the front of Newcastles ‘Discovery Museum’. We recommend hitting this spot on an evening or weekend as cars could be parked up ruining the fun.
- Fat Budha Manny Pad & Ledges – Located in the middle of the 55′ Degrees North roundabout an art installation turn manny pad awaits a skate accompanied by some hefty sized ledges
- The Core – A collection of various buildings a short 2 minute walk from our store housing an array of different spots within their grounds. Metal ledges, benches, manny pads, gap to rails, downhill concrete blocks and a variety of other skateable objects make the Core arguably the best street spot the toon has to offer.

Banks
- Harry Bastard Banks – One of Newcastles more iconic spots nestled away in a bridge arch behind the Brew Dog pub, this spot has been skated for decades but was made famous by Harry Bastard. The spot consists of a miniramp-esque setup of 2 steep banks facing each other.
- Queens Banks – Thanks to the local BMXers this spot has been brought back life, the fence that was once blocking your way up the bank has been felled gifting you a crusty flat bank with bank to wall potential.
- Castle Leazes – This short and steep but fun bank is tucked away in Castle Leazes; student accomodation on the outskirts of the city centre. The bank is harder to skate than it looks and does have the potential of you getting the boot.
- 5 Bridges – Bridges has been skated as far back as the early 80’s (Possibly sooner) and is still going strong today. It started life as arguably the best street spot in the North and with the addition of a few blocks, rails and a kicker soon became an iconic home to northern skating. The uneven floor and rounded ledges give it a certain character and charm that can’t be matched. Love it or hate it it’s the best your going to get around here.
- Gateshead Red Brick 1/4’s – A quick 5min journey away from 5 Bridges has you stood in a housing estate at the foot of these whippy red brick beasts. The ever decaying run-up and steepness of tranny make this thing a battle to skate but they’re the closest thing you’re getting to ‘perfect’ street transition around here.

Stairs
- Law Courts 8’s – Probably up there as one of the most skated sets of stairs we have to offer with an ever dwindling list of NBD’s to still be claimed. The lengthy run up allows for both sets of stairs to be hit wihtout an additonal push, if you need inspiration go checkout ‘Red Bull Underwraps’ on youtube.
- Civic 8 – Maybe bigger and definitely crustier than Law Courts; Civic 8 is a legit set of stairs to huck. The square rails adorning it’s sides definitely aren’t for the faint of heart with a good 1 story drop on the other side of them.
- River 5 – The most chill of 5 sets with a 4 stair sat at the other end of the run-up, if you arent careful here your board is going in the Tyne.
- Uni 3, 3, 5 – If you’re quick footed enough your going to have fun hitting all these in a line, if this isn’t for you then the ride on slappy ledge at the side might be more your thing. A weird one for security at this spot, you could get 5mins you could get all day.
- Monument 2 – As with the benches mentioned earlier this spot can be hectic during the day especially if you’re planning on hitting this as a manny pad.

STAFF PICKS
Glen Harpin – Clock Slappy Ledge
All round chiller spot with a smooth floor, slappy ledge and a manny pad…everything I enjoy really
Jackie Young – White Ledge
The ledge recently got ‘Knob Busted’, it has a perfect smooth run up and grinds so well.
Johnny Haynes – Queens Banks
I was always gutted that I never got to skate this spot back in the day before the council fenced it off but recently the local BMX’ers have cut the fence out and had a good go at restoring the bank back to it’s former glory. The run-up leaves a lot to be desired and the bank is crust but still a fun skate.
Lewis Ellenden – The Core
It’s got a good variety of stuff to skate there.
