PSL Skateboarding

PSL Skateboarding; Skateboardings newest competition!

Skateboarding’s newest competition is here, PSL Skateboarding (Professional Skateboarding League) has kicked off 2025 with its first ever run of the contest. Founded and created by legendary ex professional skateboarder Mike Mo Capaldi, there’s a fresh competition format hitting screens, featuring some of the biggest names in the professional skateboarding world.

Just think about a classic game of S.K.A.T.E. but down a hefty four flat four double set, hosted at pro skater and industry mogul Paul ‘P Rod’ Rodriguez’s Primitive Park. The format of the competition is simple, two teams of two are pitted against each other,  playing a classic game of skate, just down stairs.

This competition format is designed to be fast paced, exciting, filled with drama, and because it’s a more linear scoring system than other competitions like SLS, with no judges involved, and simply working off a yes they landed, or no they bailed scoring system, PSL is designed to be more consumable to the mainstream, who may not know the ins and outs of the technicalities that can be professional street skateboarding tricks, but can appreciate if a trick is simply landed, or bailed.

We’re unsure if in the future might extend further than just being a stairset game of skate, with the option very much there to spice up the competition with the additions of hubbas and rails. We’re very interested to see how the skateboard competition does evolve in the future, and what more Mike Mo and the team have up their sleeves.

The inaugural rendition of the event was hosted on the 1st of February 2025, about a week before writing this block, and after watching and reading the reaction of other shredders, it’s definitely something that’s peaked the interest of skaters worldwide. The comp definitely felt fresh and it’s something that hasn’t been done before, and the skaters competing in the first ever event definitely put it down.

The skaters competing in the first event included massive names such as Jamie Foy, Nyjah, Miles Silvas, Prod, Dashawn Jordan and more, so PSL have obviously come out swinging with a packed lineup which was sure to provide excellent entertainment and produce some of the absolute highest quality skating around.

We just quickly have to give a shoutout to two of the competitors not already mentioned, Zach Saraceno and Art Cordova, both of whom absolutely killed it, stomping their tricks with power and steeze, both of these guys were a joy to watch. Zach might just be the best nollie flipper in the world.

The contest was hosted by infamous Mic man Gary Rodgers, a polarising figure of the skateboarding world, one which some people absolutely love, and some the opposite, however Gary without a doubt brings an infectious amount of energy and hype, which is the ideal mix for a competition like this, especially the first one.

After watching the first event, the one thing I think that could be improved would be the length of the preliminary rounds, both the prelims and finals were 5 rounds a game, which kind of dragged the contest out a little bit and got a little bit boring towards the end of the prelim games, to fix this, dropping the prelims to 3 rounds, and keeping the finals at 5, would be the only improvement I could suggest after watching the first ever PSL.

PSL is exclusively available to watch on the PSL youtube channel which we’ll link the first event below so you can check it out yourself, we’re hyped to see what the future holds for PSL, and how they’ll continue to innovate and excite in the contest skateboarding world in 2025 and beyond.
