Chocolate Skateboards; A true legacy skateboard company!
Chocolate skateboards was founded in 1994, as a sister company to Girl Skateboards. Rick Howard and Mike Carrol, who co-founded both Chocolate and Girl, and after instant success with Girl, were running out of space for riders they wanted to sponsor on the Girl Skateboards team, hence the creation of Chocolate. Spike Jonze and Megan Baltimore were two people also involved from the very start, helping Rick and Mike with the creative direction of the brand.
Chocolate has developed its own unique visual style, with graphics often very artistic and using instantly recognizable fonts, to create a very identifiable and individual look. The Chocolate ‘Script’ brand logo is simple, effective and one of the most famous in skateboarding.
Chocolate has released some massive skateboard videos since its creation, with Spike Jonze doing a lot of the filming early on. Some notable videos include Las Nueve Vidas De Paco (1995), The Chocolate Tour (1999), and Hot Chocolate (2004), all released in the first 10 years of the brands life. With Bunny hop (2021) and Chunk of Chocolate (2024) being released in the last five years.
Sandwiched in the middle of those, is Pretty Sweet (2012), which is a Chocolate / Girl shared video, and one of the most famous skateboarding videos of all time.
Over the last 30+ years, some of the biggest names in Skateboarding have graced the Chocolat e Skateboards team, including massive names such as Marc Johnson, Keenan Milton, Chico Brenes, Kenny Anderson, Vincent Alvarez and many more. On a more recent note, Chocolate welcomed English shredder Dougie George to the team, Dougie has been killing it for ages and we’re stoked to see him on the team.
Chocolate product has always been a firm favourite here at Native, with boards being a staple on our wall since we opened our doors in 2003, we also carry a great range of soft goods from the brand, including hoodies, tees and hats, and also get a few interesting accessory pieces such as the sick filmer chair with bear cooler based underneath. Chocolate don’t just make decks on the hard goods front though, we also stock bearings, Truck bolts and wheels from them, so keep your eyes peeled for them and get them on your next setup.
We’ve also been lucky enough to release a couple of collaborative pieces with Chocolate over the years, with limited numbers of the ‘Flip The Script’ decks, tees and hoods left in stock, so check those out and grab yourself a piece of history.
We’re stoked on Chocolate Skateboards at Native, so check out the vids, have a look at the product, and get to know one of the biggest companies in skating.
